Intro To A/B Genius
Welcome to AB Genius
AB Genius is a Shopify A/B testing app built by CRO practitioners. It lets you run experiments on your live store, test prices, messaging, and page layouts, and make decisions based on real customer behaviour instead of guesswork.
AB Genius is completely no-code and runs natively inside Shopify, so you can launch high-impact tests in minutes.
What you can do with AB Genius
Price Testing — Show different product prices to different visitors. The test price applies at actual checkout through Shopify's Cart Transform Function. Find the price point that maximises your revenue per visitor.
Content Testing — Change headlines, product descriptions, button text, promotional messaging, and any visible element on your storefront. Use the Visual Editor to point, click, and edit — no code required.
Page Split Testing — Redirect visitors between two different page URLs to compare entirely different page designs, layouts, or landing pages against each other.
All experiments track key ecommerce metrics automatically: conversion rate, revenue per visitor, average order value, add to cart rate, and abandoned cart rate. Results include audience breakdowns by device, country, traffic source, and more.

Built by CRO practitioners
AB Genius was built by a team with 5+ years of hands-on CRO experience working with Shopify brands. The platform focuses on testing the variables that actually move revenue — pricing, messaging, and offer structure — not superficial design tweaks.

What to Test
The experiments that actually move the needle for Shopify brands.
Not all tests are created equal. The biggest conversion and revenue gains come from testing the variables that directly affect how much money each visitor is worth to your business.
Here's where to focus — in order of impact.
1. Pricing
Pricing is the single highest-leverage variable on your store. Most brands set their prices once and never revisit them. A small price adjustment — even $3–5 — can significantly change your revenue per visitor.
AB Genius makes this easy with Price Tests. Set up a test in minutes, show different prices to different visitors, and let the data tell you which price point maximises revenue. The test price applies at checkout — it's not just visual.
Start here: Test a 10–15% price increase on your best-selling product. Measure revenue per visitor, not just conversion rate.
2. Messaging and offers
How you present your product matters as much as the product itself. Test:
Headlines and value propositions
How you frame discounts ("Save 20%" vs "$10 off" vs "Buy 2, Get 1 Free")
Product descriptions — benefit-led vs feature-led
Urgency and scarcity messaging
Trust signals and social proof placement
Start here: Rewrite your top product page headline to lead with a customer outcome instead of a product feature. Run a Content Test against the original.
3. Page design and layout
When you've built a new version of a product page or landing page, don't just replace the old one. Test it first.
Page Split Tests let you send a portion of traffic to the new page and compare performance against the original. This tells you whether your new design actually converts better — before you commit.
Start here: If you're running paid traffic to a landing page, split test it against your standard product page.
4. What NOT to test first
Button colours, font sizes, icon changes, and minor spacing tweaks. These almost never produce statistically significant results and consume testing time that could be spent on pricing, messaging, and offer structure.
Test the things that affect what visitors buy, how much they pay, and whether they trust you enough to complete checkout. Everything else is secondary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about AB Genius.
General
Does AB Genius work with my theme?
AB Genius works with any Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme. This includes all modern themes — Dawn, Sense, Craft, and all third-party OS 2.0 themes. For headless or custom storefronts, contact us at info@abgenius.io.
What Shopify plans does AB Genius support?
All of them — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. There are no Shopify plan restrictions.
Does AB Genius slow down my store?
No. The script loads asynchronously via a Theme App Extension. Visitors not in any experiment experience zero additional load. See our Pagespeed doc for the full technical breakdown.
Does AB Genius affect SEO?
No. Experiments are delivered client-side via JavaScript. Search engines continue to see and index your original page content. No duplicate content issues.
Experiments
Can visitors tell they're in a test?
No. Experiments are invisible to visitors. Group assignment is anonymous via a browser cookie. No consent banner or notification is shown. For price tests, anti-flicker technology prevents the original price from ever being visible.
Can I run multiple experiments at the same time?
Yes, on the Pro plan (unlimited experiments). On the Free plan, you can run 1 of each test type. See Test Compatibility for details on avoiding conflicts.
Does ending a test apply the winner automatically?
No. Ending an experiment or declaring a winner stops the test and preserves results. To implement the winner permanently, you update your Shopify store manually (change the price, update the copy, etc.). This is intentional — permanent changes should be deliberate.
How long should I run a test?
At minimum, aim for 100–200 unique visitors per group and 1–2 weeks of runtime. Wait for statistical significance before declaring a winner. See How Much Traffic Do I Need? for detailed guidance.
Price Testing
Does the A/B test price apply at checkout or just display?
Both. The test price displays on the storefront AND applies at actual checkout via Shopify's Cart Transform Function. The visitor pays the test price.
Does AB Genius modify my Shopify product prices?
No. Your actual Shopify product prices in the admin are never changed. AB Genius only shows different prices to different visitor segments during the experiment.
Can I test prices for only some variants of a product?
Yes. Each product variant has its own price input. You can set test prices for specific variants and leave others at the original price.
Billing
Is the Free plan really free?
Yes. The Free plan is a permanent tier — not a trial. It doesn't expire. It includes 1 of each test type, basic analytics, and core testing capabilities.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
Go to Settings → Billing in the app. Click Upgrade. You'll be redirected to Shopify's billing page to confirm. The upgrade is instant.
Will I lose data if I downgrade or uninstall?
No. Experiment data is retained. You can still view past results. For data retention specifics, see Data Retention & Deletion.
